Remedies for Edema : Swollen Feet, Swollen Ankle and Swollen Legs

Edema is swelling caused by fluid buildup.  Our body retain water because the blood vessels in our arms legs and feet and hands dilate or expand.  This dilation can be caused by hot or humid weather as wells as a number of other causes such as kidney disease.  When we sit or stand in one position for a long time without moving, the swelling is worse because gravity just pulls all that fluid down to pool in your hands, legs and feet.

Below are some of the safe and natural ways to relieve swelling :-

  1.  Taking breaks in-between by walking and stretching your limbs
  2.  Wear compression socks
  3.  Reduce salt intake
  4.  Raise your feet and draw circles with ankles to exercise lower leg muscles.
  5.  Keep your legs elevated while sitting for prolonged periods by using a
    Foot Rest. Also, prop your feet up on a foot rest pillow while lying on the sofa or in bed.
